Antioch Vision & Values
Antioch Church exists to glorify God by helping build a better San Luis Obispo for all peoples through a gospel movement that brings true community, new followers of Jesus, systemic love, and cultural renewal to the Central Coast by the power of the Holy Spirit.
- To glorify God: Antioch pursues this chief end of all things through a shared and unifying delight in God above all things (Rom 11:33–36).
- Helping build a better San Luis Obispo for all peoples: Until King Jesus returns, he will use Antioch and others to bring gladness to all peoples (Psa 67). Just as Israel was called to seek the good of their city, so also we will love our neighbors, invest ourselves in industry, and worship faithfully (Jer 29:7).
- A gospel movement: The gospel’s power and purpose to reach all peoples (Acts 6:7; 12:24; 19:20) requires church planting (Matt 28:18-20). So we pray God will use Antioch to bring about a movement of churches that plant churches in order to reach the lost and transform the Central Coast.
- True community: This gospel movement begins with true Christian friendships, where shared doctrine, practice, and purpose exist (Phil 2:1–18). This life together will form the basis for belonging to the family of Antioch (1 Cor 1:1–2:5).
- New followers of Jesus: As members of Antioch live out this loving and united community, our neighbors will see the power of the gospel and the truth of Jesus (John 13:35, 17:21). We pray God will call many to see and treasure Christ, take up their cross, and follow him (Luke 9:18–27).
- Systemic love: God grieves the injustices that harm his image bearers (Is 59:14–15). Jesus will use his church to bring love and justice to the poor, orphan, widow, and foreigner with compassion and mercy on the Central Coast (Job 29:14–17; Zech 7:9–10; Matt 22:37–40) empowered by the hope of his return when he will make all things new (Is 9:7; Rev 21:5).
- Cultural renewal to the Central Coast: A culture is shaped by what it prizes and the narratives it enjoys. Cultural renewal occurs when Christ captivates hearts as the True Treasure and the Hero of the Great Story. As we better understand the culture of the Central Coast we will then engage it through integrating our faith with our work and recreation (1 Cor 10:31; Luke 6:32–36).
- By the power of the Holy Spirit: The risen Lord Jesus promised to send another paraclete to equip us with gifts and power to do this incredible–and otherwise impossible–work (John 14:12–17). We endeavor to see the Holy Spirit work as he pleases among and through us so that in all things God might get the glory (1 Pet 4:8–11).
